Michael Green is a name to remember. The class of 2019 point guard from the New York Gauchos showed at the Hoop Group Providence Jam Fest that he is one of the most under the radar prospects in the northeast. He stands 5’10”, but that doesn’t get in his way as he had high scoring games throughout the weekend against top notch talent. He caught up with HG Insider on playing at Providence Jam Fest, his motivation on the floor and more.

Q: You guys performed well at the Hoop Group Providence Jam Fest. What was it like playing that well in an event that talented?

A: “From the start we came at everyone’s head because we knew that we would be playing top teams. They all felt like they were going to come out and beat us. We were the underdogs and ended up going far.”

Q: How has people overlooking you through the years help motivate you through the years?

A: “I play hard every time I step on the court. I understand that all coaches, scouts and more overlook me. I understand that there are a lot guards that are considered better than me, but I feel like I can play with all of them.”

Q: What’s it like representing New York whenever you are on the court?

A: “It’s all pride and you have to play hard every time you are out there. They all try to come for you because you have the Gauchos name on your chest.”

Q: What goals have you set out for yourself the rest of the AAU season?

A: “For the rest of the AAU season I’m trying to win every tournament we play in. We all want to get more attention as the season goes on.”

Q: What would you say separates your game from others and what would say are the parts of your game that needs improvement?

A: “I’m trying to work on my strength, shooting range and being more of a vocal leader. I would say I facilitate the ball well and make everyone better. I can score whenever I need to.”
