Richie Greaves is undertaking a senior leadership role at Roselle Catholic this year - Q&A with HG Insider
Roselle Catholic’s Richie Greaves is looking forward to undertaking a senior leadership role this season. Greaves and the Lions fell short of their goal in winning the TOC last season so coming out on top is a big priority of his this year. He spoke to HG Insider about this season.
What needs to be done in order to achieve your ultimate goal of winning the TOC?
Q: What does this year mean to you?
A: “This year means so much to me as a player because last year we were so close to winning it all and I think this year we have a really good squad to win the TOC. We all know each other very well, which translates on the court which makes us play even better. Last year, one of our teammates got hurt which held us back a little so this year I plan to give it my all.”
Q: You will be asked to lead this team this year. What excites you about this role?
A: “What excites me about leading the team this year is to be able to play a leadership role with a great team with such deep talent. Last year, I got to see how it is being a leader for a team and I learned from Josh Pierre-Louis and Kahlil Whitney. I was able to take away a lot of great qualities from them. I feel lucky to have that added knowledge and it gives me more power and drives me to succeed.”
Q: What needs to be done in order to achieve your ultimate goal of winning the TOC?
A: “We have to work together as a team, and use our talented depth to ensure many victories. We need to stay focused throughout the year to reach our end goal. Every single day we need to go hard in practice so it will show in the end. We will need to put the team's needs above our own and I plan to lead the way by doing just that.”
Q: How would you describe this year’s teams?
A: “This year’s team is unique because some of our new additions are players that I’ve already had chemistry with on and off the court. I’ve played with Niels Lane and C.J. Wilcher when I was younger, so it’s kind of like we already know each-others style of play and how to play well together. This year’s team has a high motor, we love to play defense and go all out. All of this combined will lead to us winning the TOC.”
