A main goal of dribbling is to create space in order to get an easy shot for you or a teammate.There are several techniques that can help you create distance from your opponent. Quickly changing your dribble from one side to the other can throw the defender off guard. This technique has become very popular but it does create risk by exposing the ball in front of you. The retreat dribble is not as popular but can be quite effective. When dribbling and protecting the ball, take a couple of quick steps back. This may open up room between you and the defender, allowing you to better see the court and choose the next correct move.
