Montverde CBD is making its Hoop Group debut at the New Jersey Tip-Off Classic. Kevin Boyle Jr. is clearly familiar with New Jersey as he went to St. Patrick’s High School (NJ). Boyle is excited to return to New Jersey and play in a top notch event.

"I'm looking forward to playing in New Jersey because in my experience it is rare if you're at a game between two local NJ teams and the spectators aren't invested in the game," said Boyle. "Basketball is so important in NJ and I wanted my team to experience that, and I also wanted to have the opportunity to have some of my family watch our team play."

Montverde Academy CBD has a nice makeup to their team this year with a lot of upperclassmen leadership. They have impressive guard play with guys like James Lee, Trae Broadnax and Saint Louis commit Gibson Jimerson and talented big men with Gonzaga commit Pavel Zakharov, Quinnipiac commit Seth Pinkney and forward Oton Jankovic. Coach Boyle likes the team he has and how well they work together.

"I think we are lucky to have a lot of players who have been apart of good programs in high school or in travel basketball, so there isn't as much of a learning curve in terms of what expectations need to be met every day," he said. "Each player is communicative and they seem to enjoy each other's company so that is a plus."

Montverde Academy CBD has a nicely put together backcourt this year. Seniors James Lee, Trae Broadnax and Gibson Jimerson have their own role within the offense and work well together. Lee provides is great off the bounce and has a real knack for getting to the rim. Broadnax is also good at slashing to the basket, but can also step it out and knock down shots. Jimerson is one of the best shooters throughout the country and is a threat anytime he crosses the half court line.

Just like their backcourt, Montverde Academy CBD’s frontcourt is impressive. They are highlighted by Gonzaga commit Pavel Zakharov, Quinnipiac commit Seth Pinkney and forward Oton Jankovic. Zakharov broke out at the National Prep Showcase where he showed off an impressive skill set and a great deal of upside. He skyrocketed on the national radar and now is ranked 38th in the country, according to 247 Sports. Seth Pinkney has great physical tools as he stands at 6’11” with a very long wingspan. He utilizes this on the defensive end as he is a top-notch rim protector and is also making strides offensively. Jankovic has good size and is a capable shooter from deep that adds a different element to their offense.

Last Word

This team will be one of the main attractions to the New Jersey Tip-Off Classic as it gives the event more of a national feel. It’s a given that you will see the top teams in the northeast at the Tip-Off Classic, but CBD brings something different to the table. Kevin Boyle Jr. has a fun group to watch and isn’t shying away from the top competition with opponents like Blair Academy and Perkiomen on the schedule. It’s simple they have a lot of talent and are fun to watch. What’s not to like about that?
