Manasquan (NJ) freshman point guard Ben Roy has made waves this high school season and looks to continue his early season success the Boardwalk Showcase this Saturday. Roy has done a good job undertaking a big role as just a freshman this season. He likes how his team looks going into their matchup against Neptune this weekend.

Q: How has the transition to high school been?

A: “The transition to high school overall has been pretty good. It took me a little while to get comfortable in a new system, but we are starting to come together and should be dangerous when we get to the Shore Conference Tournament and state playoffs.”

Q: What’s been the key to your successful start to the season?

A: “I think I've been fairly successful so far because of the work I put in last summer and over the fall. I came into the season prepared and ready to compete.”

Q: What are your team expectations for this season?

A: “Manasquan's team goals are the same every year and that is to compete for Shore Conference championship and make a deep run in states. We are the favorite to win Central Jersey Group 2 Title.”

Q: You are starting to make a name for yourself, but I’m sure there is plenty you are still reaching for. What are people going to notice about you the more they watch you?

A: “Although I am starting to make a little bit of a name for myself, I realize this is definitely a marathon and not a sprint. I have a ton of work to do. I consider myself a playmaker, whether it's for me or my teammates. I've also really taken pride in my defense this year. I'm always looking to guard the other team's best guard.”

Q: What have you learned from your team this season?

A:  “I've learned from my team it's about winning and everyone has a role. Although I'm the young new guy, I've been accepted and they know I'll do what it takes to make us better.”
