Former Hoop Group employee and current South Carolina assistant coach Chuck Martin caught up with HG Insider to talk about his coaching journey. Martin touches upon advice he would have given himself at a young age, his goals at South Carolina and much more.

Q: What’s been your favorite part of being a college coach?

A: “For me the best part of my journey has been all the people I’ve come in contact with and the relationships I’ve been able to develop all over the world. Those relationships are very important to me.”

Q: What’s some advice you would give yourself when you were just starting out?

A: “The advice I would give my younger self would be to stay in the moment, don’t be concerned with what happened in the past and don’t look too far into the future.”

Q: What’s been your favorite part about coaching with South Carolina?

A: “I think one of my favorite parts about coaching at South Carolina is learning a different style of basketball. I’ve been learning how to win in a completely different way from what I have been used to.”

Q: What are some goals that you have in mind with this team next season?

A: “Like most teams around the country, I want to play in the NCAA tournament and make a deep run! I’d like for us to finish at the top of an extremely competitive SEC and as always help our guys continue to grow and develop on and off the court.”
