Class of 2020 big man Cliff Omoruyi headlines at Boardwalk Showcase. Widely known for his imposing size and competitive nature, “Big Cliff” earned a position in ESPN’s Top 50. Cliff remains uncommitted entering his senior season but plans to attend school for mechanical engineering.
Q: How would you describe yourself as a player to someone who has never seen you play?
A: An athletic big who runs the floor. Shot blocker, rebounder, and finisher around the basket (mid-range jumper).
Q: What role do you play on your team?
A: Center in charge of rebounding, good defender, and finisher.
Q: What are we going to see different from you this year?
A: I have been working on my ball-handling and a little bit of behind the arc jumper.
Q: You get a lot of media attention. Do you play differently when there are cameras at your games?
A: I do what I do best at all times regardless of cameras or no cameras.
Q: What was the biggest transition for you from Africa to the States?
A: Learning to eat the food and leaving my mum.
Q: Who has had the biggest impact on your game?
A: I would say all three (coaches, players, family), but most importantly, family.
Q: Which schools have been the most active in your recruitment?
A: Rutgers, Arizona State & Auburn.
Q: Where / When did the nickname “Big Cliff” originate?
A: Back home when I was in middle school. I was the tallest in my class and my gym teacher called me Big Cliff.
Q: What is something you would like people to know about you?
A: “I’m more than and athlete.“
