The rising junior from New Canaan CT, Alex Gibbens has impressed this weekend at Academic Elite. Gibbens uses his size and athleticism to get into the lane and finish at the rim and has been consistent from behind the arc. Alex currently has offers from NCAC and NESCAC. He sits down with HG Insider to discuss his play and recruitment.

Q1: Can you describe your game to someone who has never seen you play before?

A: I’m a hustle player. I like to move around and get other people open. I would say my main strength is shooting. I have a good range and can spread the floor. I also have good ball handling skills and I can push it up the court on a fast break.

Q2: What has changed for you skill and recruiting wise this summer?

A: I feel like I’ve improved a lot on my ball handling and shooting. I’m more consistent on my 3-point range and that helped me a lot in my recruiting process.

Q3: Have any schools that you like reached out to you?
A: I have a couple going around, but my favorites are Kenyon and Bates. Those are my top 2 right now.

Q4: When you play on the court, is there anyone you try to model your game after?

A: Ray Allen for sure. He’s known for shooting but he can also get to the basket.

Q5: How do you feel being an athlete impacts you as a student?

A: It impacts me a lot. You have to balance your time between school and sports. So it really is a challenge to schedule around sports and academics.

Q6: Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

A: Hopefully having a job that I like. Making some money and having a good experience at college.
